Divination has been practiced by many cultures for millennia. It has been used to predict the future, assess health and well-being, find answers to questions, and connect with the spiritual realm. It also can be used for fun or entertainment. Many people use divination to learn more about themselves and others in their lives.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty, an important aspect of working on Divination is knowing the psychic abilities used with it.
Types Of Psychic Abilities
Cassie Uhl, whom we first featured in Auras 101, defines extrasensory perception, or ESP, as the ability to know things about people, places, or things without being informed in traditional methods, such as verbal communication, touching, smelling, or seeing. It’s through extrasensory abilities that we can experience psychic information.
These abilities are what’s more known as the five clairs:
- Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing) – the ability to see the future or predict what will happen. Clairvoyance is often used in fortune-telling, but it can also be used to describe a person’s insight into a situation or event.
- Clairaudience (Clear Hearing) – the ability to hear sounds that are not produced by any known source.
- Clairsentience (Clear Feeling) – the ability to feel, perceive, and experience the emotions of others.
- Claircognizance (Clear Knowing) – involves the clear and certain knowledge of events, people, or objects independent of sensory input or any kind of logical reasoning.
- Clairtangency (Clear Touching) – aka psychometry, or the ability to glean information about an object by obtaining physical contact with the object.
Believe it or not, we all have one or more of these psychic abilities. Some are only more aware of them, thus are able to make use of them consciously and develop them further.
Such manifestation of an enhanced psychic ability is the art of channeling, which is defined as the ability to receive and transmit information from a higher consciousness while in a decidedly altered state of mind.
Though each incident varies in intensity and resulting activity, many share the same basic traits: a semi-trance-like state and the appearance of an outer entity expressing itself through the channeler.
One of the more well-known channelers is Abraham Hicks. We have their books Ask and It is Given and Money and the Law of Attraction featured here. There’s also Frank, one that Mike Dooley has worked with for From Deep Space with Love.

How to Develop Psychic Abilities
All people are born with the capacity for psychic powers but only a few become psychic. There are two types of psychics: the natural born and those who are through practice able to grow the powers within them.
Natural-born psychics are said to be gifted as they have had a great number of psychic powers since birth, or even from their past lives.
On the other hand, those who are born with lesser amounts of psychic powers require more practice and understanding in order to grow.
In other cases, psychic abilities can be suddenly awakened by strong emotions or near-death experiences, which results in having great amounts of mental powers in an instant.
Here are some of the elements that can help a person to develop their psychic skills or abilities:
- Understanding: Spiritual development requires time, patience, and understanding. In order to develop your psychic ability, you must first understand its importance and purpose. Having psychic powers also entails responsibilities; becoming a psychic means that you allow your mind and body to grow spiritually, set your goal into helping others, give as precise information as possible, and know that having a psychic ability is never to be abused.
- Patience: Whether you’re a natural born with psychic powers or not, you will only be able to develop your psychic ability with time. So don’t rush, the spirits will guide you through your journey. It is best to find a psychic group in your community or online to guide you.
- Focus: Focusing first on one ability is good. Choose which ability you would like to develop. It is important that you believe in yourself while doing a reading. Psychics have different types of reading and will choose the most appropriate based on the client.
- Practice: Becoming a skillful psychic requires a lot of practice. Nobody becomes a professional in any field in just a few days! When practicing your psychic ability, keep in mind that what you’re doing is good for someone. Discard your doubts. No matter what your mind sees during a psychic reading, take full trust in your ability.

Tarot
Tarot cards are a form of divination that is used to predict the future. They are usually used for guidance in making decisions. Tarot cards can be used for a variety of purposes, such as telling the future, gaining insight into situations or events, and providing clarity about life choices.
Astrology
Astrology is based on the movements of the celestial bodies in our solar system and how they influence different aspects of our lives. This includes our personality, our relationships, and our fortunes. It is most commonly used as a type of fortune-telling to reveal information about future events. There are charts that chart the position of the planets and your zodiac sign at the time you were born. Your sign can reveal a lot about your personality and how you interact with others. This can help guide you in making important decisions about your life.
Numerology
Numerology is based on the belief that every number has a specific meaning and uses them in calculations to reveal information about someone’s life path and characteristics. The numbers are assigned numerical values based on a certain equation and then used to interpret the traits of a person based on their birthdate and name.
Palm Reading
Palm reading is a method used by psychics to predict one’s future based on information derived from palmistry skills. It involves examining lines on the hand and analyzing the shape, size, and texture of specific lines and markings on the hand to determine the future ahead for a person. The various markings of the palm are said to reveal things about a person’s character, personality traits, and health. It is believed that the lines on the hand reveal clues to the person’s past, present, and future.
Runes
Runes are ancient symbols that can be drawn on any surface using wax or pencil. They are used to give advice and insight into your life. They are made up of 24 different symbols and are charged with energy when they are cast. They are said to act as a guiding force in your life and provide you with guidance when you are in need of it. You can use them to help you tap into your intuition and ask for guidance from the universe.
Aura Reading
This type of reading involves the interpretation of the aura that surrounds a person. An aura is a color outline that emanates from the body and varies from person to person. Auras can be different sizes, shapes, and colors, with each one having different characteristics. Read Auras 101 for more.
If you are looking for specific advice or insight, you may wish to visit a psychic that only specializes in one or two areas. Some of the readings must be conducted face to face, but most can be distant readings that are done virtually or over the phone.
Whichever type of psychic reading you choose, you will be amazed at the insightful things that a psychic can tell you about your life.
