Once you begin to understand the correlation between what you are thinking, what you are feeling, and what you are receiving, now you have it. Now you hold all the keys that are necessary to get from wherever you are to wherever you want to be, on all subjects. – Abraham Hicks
Before we begin, it would be helpful to lay out some premises in order for us to have a better understanding of Abraham’s teachings.
So put your weirdness on!
Abraham is a collective consciousness, a family of Non-Physical Beings assembled by intention to remind us of our true essence and the Laws of the Universe that govern all things. Their teachings are channeled through Esther Hicks.
One premise we have to keep in mind is that we are vibrational Beings (soul is a Being of Light, which has vibrational frequency) existing in a vibrational Universe. This is the basis of the Law of Attraction.
The manifestation of our desires involves the 3-step Creative Process:
- Step 1: You ask
- Step 2: The answer is given
- Step 3: The given answer must be received or allowed
In the discussions that follow, we are going to focus on the last step because steps 1 and 2 are naturally occurring. The asking part comes from the contrast of life experiences. When we get sick, our Inner Being has already asked for getting healthy. When we lack money, the desire for more money has already been asked. And all our desires, when asked are always answered and given by the Source within us.
There we go.
Now for the lessons, let’s jump in!
Freedom
You are eternal Beings who have chosen to participate in this specific physical life experience for many wonderful reasons. And this time-space-reality on Planet Earth serves as a platform in which you are able to focus your perspective for the purpose of specific creation.
You are eternal Consciousness, currently in this wonderful physical body for the thrill and exhilaration of specific focus and creation.
We are eternal Beings in physical form. The eternal Being part of us is our soul, which is part and extension of the Source (God). Let’s just say we are the representatives of God who came here for the life experience. Through us, God is able to experience Itself. And the Consciousness of God, through experience, is becoming aware of Itself.
On behalf of God, we came here for the experience of creating who we want to become and do what we want to do. All of life is about re-creation (experience). How would God know (consciousness) that He/She is a Creator if He/She does not experience how to create?
Put into human perspective, how would a writer know he is a ‘writer’ if he does not write? How would a painter know she is a ‘painter’ if she does not paint?
The meaning and purpose of life can be as simple as this: to experience who you are.
And the basis of life is freedom: free to be and express who you are.
But what happened when we were born? Suddenly our formless Being (soul) experienced limitations with our physical human form (body). From this experience, the belief in separation was also born. As we grow up, we learn certain family beliefs. And as we integrate into society, we also learn a set of beliefs. We learn life based on how others live.
We were told who we should be, how we should act, and what is ‘best’ for us.
In that learning, we have forgotten the Truth of who we really are and that we are free to live the life we want. But somehow, at the core of our being, we still feel the presence of this Truth wanting to be free!
This, we can say, is what Abraham Hicks teachings are all about — to help us remember, to remind us that we are the creator of our reality.
Resistance
Well-Being is the basis of this Universe. It flows to you and through you. You have only to allow it. Like the air you breathe, you have only to open, relax, and draw it into your Being.
Abraham Hicks said that a stream of Well-Being naturally flows to us and through us always. It is as natural as the air we breathe and we only need to allow it.
This Well-Being is vibrational in essence. We feel positive vibrations such as joy and love when we are allowing its flow, when we are aligned with the Source of this Well-Being.
Everything we have desired in life has already been transmitted by us vibrationally. It has been heard and answered by the Source and our job is to feel our way into allowing ourselves to receive it.
The only reason why we are not receiving our desires, meaning they are not manifesting in our lives, is because we are holding ourselves in a vibrational pattern that does not match the vibration of our desires. This is called resistance.
Thoughts carry vibration. Our job is to be aware of the resistant thoughts that run in our consciousness and to release them gently and gradually. We do this consciously — conscious of our thinking patterns and how they affect our emotions. Emotions are vibrational interpreters.
We can then feel whether we are allowing or resisting the flow. We feel good when we allow. We feel bad when we resist.
Tune In
Every thought vibrates, every thought radiates a signal, and every thought attracts a matching signal back. We call that process the Law of Attraction.
The Law of Attraction says: That which is like unto itself is drawn. And so, you might see the powerful Law of Attraction as a sort of Universal Manager that sees to it that all thoughts that match one another line up.
I love the analogy presented in the book to better comprehend how the Law of Attraction works. Consider the Source as a radio station that plays music at the 101FM. It is obvious enough that we, the receiver, cannot hear the music if our tuner is set at 98.6FM. We need to match the frequency!
This means that we have to tune in to the vibrational frequency of our desires. Now how do we do that? We tune in to our feelings. Again, when we feel good, that’s a match! So we have to consistently find ways to be in vibrational harmony with those desires, and their manifestation must follow because it is the law.
And the easiest way for you to achieve vibrational harmony with it is to imagine having it, pretend that it is already in your experience, flow your thoughts toward the enjoyment of the experience, and as you practice those thoughts and begin to consistently offer that vibration, you will then be in the place of allowing that into your experience.
Let’s take note of some keywords here: imagine, pretend, practice.
The Universe does not know what is real and what is imaginary. It doesn’t know whether your thoughts are about the past, the present, or the future. It responds only to what you are feeling, your vibration in the now. So we have to keep playing the imaginary experience in our minds and feel what it’s like to have the experience until we become habituated to the thoughts and feelings of the experience.
Visualization and affirmations are tools I personally use for this practice. They work for me, so I would encourage anyone to do the same.
The funny thing that Abraham Hicks also mentioned was that the Law of Attraction is like a ‘manager’ who is always at work, but only a few employ in their lives.
If you notice, the word attraction is composed of the words attract + action. But most people only use the action part, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It just takes more effort, more hard work, with less significant results. Abraham Hicks says that while we keep on doing all the work, the manager is somewhere on the beach having a vacation. Haha!
It’s about time we put the manager to work for us.
One Direction
You are in the perfect position to get there from here. Nothing has to change in your environment or in the circumstances that surround you for you to begin to deliberately allow your own connection to the Stream of Well-Being… Still you are in the perfect place, right now, to begin. And we also want you to understand that this will not require a great deal of time, for it only requires a simple understanding of the Universal Laws, and a determination to move toward a state of allowing.
There are many ways to get from where we are to where we want to be, but there’s only one direction we need to go — forward.
It’s like driving a vehicle from one place to another. First, we decide what we want. We need to be aware of our starting place (acknowledge the sickness, the bankruptcy, the divorce, etc.) and our destination (getting healthy, financial security, loving relationship, etc.). We also acknowledge that we cannot get there instantaneously; we accept that we need to travel the distance, and in time, we will arrive at our destination.
We also know that in getting there, we may feel anxious at times, run out of gas and need to refuel, encounter bumpy roads, and maybe get tired too of the journey. But we cannot be so discouraged in the middle that we just turn around and go back to our starting place.
Abraham Hicks motivates us that we do not drive back and forth and back and forth from our starting point to the midway point and then finally collapse from the never-ending journey.
We have to continue moving in the direction of our destination. Once we understand that the law is at work, we need to do what is required of us and we do it.
Attention
With your practiced attention to any subject, the Law of Attraction delivers circumstances, conditions, experiences, other people, and all manner of things that match your habitual dominant vibration. And as things begin to manifest around you that match the thoughts you have been holding, you now develop stronger and stronger vibrational habits or proclivities. And so, your once small and insignificant thought has now evolved into a powerful belief – and your powerful beliefs will always be played out in your experience.
That’s how powerful beliefs are! It begins with a single thought. Once you put your attention to a thought, it becomes activated in you. Then with the Law of Attraction, your continued attention will attract similar thoughts. A thought pattern will follow and this pattern becomes a belief. The belief, which is a set of practiced thoughts, will soon manifest as your reality.
It is important to realize that with the Law of Attraction, the Universe is all about inclusion. There is no such thing as exclusion. This means that whether you want something or not, your attention to it will include it in your vibrational offering.
If you give attention to not wanting to get sick, you still are attracting getting sick. You have been attentive to the thought of sickness, regardless of your not wanting it. If you don’t want to get sick, shift and focus your attention on being healthy instead. Think healthy. The same goes for other areas of life.
The only way to deactivate a thought is to activate another. This suggests that we focus only on the good stuff.
My friend complains to me that it’s hard when you are surrounded by negativity. But that’s the point! Negativity serves as a reference point for its opposite, positivity. It’s only up to us whether we serve the negativity, or we make the negativity serve us. If negativity arises, just let it come to pass. The unwanted must be allowed, for the wanted to be received.
Life gives us what we don’t want, so we can know and choose what we want. But the choice is always ours to make.
Emotional Guidance System
Your emotions always let you know what you are doing with your vibration; your emotions always let you know exactly what your point of attraction is; and so by paying attention to your emotions and by deliberately offering thoughts that affect the way you feel, you can consciously guide yourself into the vibrational frequency that will allow the fulfillment of any desire you hold.
We don’t have to control or suppress our emotions, because they are guiding us. Without them, we will only rely on logic and reasoning, which don’t always end up good when we do.
Emotions are reflections of our thoughts. If we allow ourselves to feel them, they help us manage our thoughts too. That is, we can consciously guide our thinking to good-feeling thoughts. They help us know whether or not we are allowing the fulfillment of our desire.
Abraham Hicks emphasized that there are no right or wrong emotions. They are simply indicators. They provide us with information.
Much like a fuel gauge, you don’t criticize the indicator when it indicates that your tank is empty. What you do is refuel. Similarly, a negative feeling is an indicator that your thoughts are offering a mismatch vibration with your desire. It indicates that your thoughts are not in vibrational harmony with your Source Energy. It indicates your misalignment with Source. It tells you to get back to alignment.
And you can replenish the flow of Source Energy (your fuel) by choosing good-feeling thoughts.
Self-Love
Appreciation and self-love are the most important aspects you could ever nurture. Appreciation of others and the appreciation of yourself are the closest vibrational matches to Source Energy of anything we have ever witnessed anywhere in this Universe.
Selfishness. Abraham Hicks is seriously teaching us to be selfish.
I know it sounds selfish, but what it implies is that we cannot give what we do not have. We can only love others when we are in love with ourselves. If we want to be of service to the world, we cannot serve from an empty cup. We can only give and serve from our overflow.
The amount of love you give to yourself is the level of appreciation you can give to others.
Abraham Hicks says that the greatest gift we can give is our happiness. It is the state of alignment with the Source — that is who we really are. And if we are in that state of connection, in a state of joy, love, or appreciation, anything or anyone we give our attention to also benefits from our alignment.
What happens is we really become an extension of the Source for others who are yearning for that connection. We become a channel of love. When you find yourself in that alignment, you experience bliss — Pure bliss my friend, pure ecstatic bliss! Oooh-someness!
The Emotional Scale
Absolute alignment with your own Source Energy means that you know the following: You are free. You are powerful. You are good. You are love. You have value. You have purpose. All is well.
Considering again our Emotional Guidance System, with our emotions as indicators like a fuel gauge, which indicates whether we are allowing or resisting our connection with Source Energy (fuel), we can use a scale of emotions that ranges from 1 to 22, with 1 as a full tank and 22 as an empty tank.
This is really a helpful guide, especially if you find yourself somewhere in the lower half of the scale, so we can ease our way back up.
Now, Abraham Hicks points out that it is difficult to move from one level to another that has a huge gap, meaning we cannot jump instantly from Depression (#26) to Happiness (#3) because there is a huge vibrational gap between them. The result would be counterproductive.
What we do whenever we find ourselves in a state of depression is first to acknowledge it (know where we are coming from). Of course, the state of happiness is the destination we desire. But we can only move along the scale gradually.
Our goal always is to get to a feeling of relief.
Here’s how: whenever you are depressed, you can express anger (without directly harming others) to get a feeling of relief from depression. Then from anger, you can blame something or someone just to get a feeling of relief from anger. And so on and so forth, until you can reach the level of happiness.
Again, we have to be aware that there are no right or wrong emotions. We have to feel everything. That’s what it means to be human.
The Art of Allowing
In the same way that you did not develop your resistant patterns all at once, you will not release them all at once – but you will release them. Process by process, game by game, and day by day, you will gradually but steadily return to being a person who allows your own natural Well-Being to flow to you.
There is a saying that life is about letting go. Ironically, when we let go, that’s when the thing we desire comes to us. Have you experienced that?
What we are letting go of is not really our desire, but our resistance. That is the Art of Allowing.
In the book, Abraham Hicks offers 22 processes to practice the Art of Allowing. I suggest getting a copy of the book and checking out for yourself what processes work best for you. Each of the processes is more effective depending on what level on the emotional scale you are currently at. We will go about briefly with some of them:
- Book of Positive Aspects – this is like a gratitude journal. In a notebook, you write about the positive aspects you see in something or someone. This helps cultivate the practice of appreciation.
- The Magical Creation Box – you can do this online with Pinterest or any other similar web app you can use as your virtual box, where you put in images of the things you desire.
- Virtual Reality – visualization: you visualize yourself already having what you desire. You include in your imagination the feeling and the sensations of the experience. It’s like having a dream, which feels real, but you do it while you’re awake.
- The Process of Meditation – an easy and very effective way to raise your vibration. It can be as simple as bringing your awareness to your breathing.
- Scripting – imagine you are a writer, and then write about what a perfect day would seem like for you. You can go into specific details as much as you want.
- Clearing Clutter for Clarity – because everything carries vibration and clearing clutter will help release your resistance and give you a feeling of relief.
Success
Success is about a happy life, and a happy life is just a string of happy moments. But most people do not allow the happy moments because they are so busy trying to get a happy life.
Abraham Hicks said that the standard of success in life is not the money or the stuff — the standard of success is the amount of joy you feel.
They also would like for us to release the word “earn” from our vocabulary, and replace it with the word “allow”. Well-Being is not something we need to earn, or struggle and try for, because the Source always sees us as blessed worthy Beings. We are all deserving of Well-Being.
With this understanding, Abraham wants us to know that Life is supposed to be fun — it is supposed to feel good; that we can be, do, or have anything. And nothing is more important than feeling good!
