You never know what the universe has in store for you as your old reality falls away and your new one begins to unfold. The only thing I can assure you of is this: The unknown has never let me down. – Dr. Joe Dispenza
In his previous book, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe talks a lot about “The Quantum You,” the greatest potential we can actualize. Now, in his latest offering, he provides scientifically-proven methods so we can tap into that potential — Becoming Supernatural.
Think of Breaking the Habit as the textbook providing us the conceptual framework, and Becoming Supernatural as the workbook with all the laboratory exercises. That and more!
Spiritual truths don’t really need scientific proof or validation. They only need to be experienced to be recognized. This book has them both: the uncommon experiences of common people and the scientific data that document their experience.
This is not an ordinary book. There’s a lot of revelation in it that will astonish you (I’ll leave that to you). Truly, we’re just merely scratching the surface of that quantum field where infinite possibilities abound.
To Dr. Joe and the people behind this magnificent work, as well as those who continue breaking boundaries for the benefit of humanity, thank you!
Breaking Bad
A habit is a redundant set of automatic unconscious thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that develop through repetition. It’s when you’ve done something so many times that your body is programmed to become the mind. Over time, your body is dragging you to a predictable future based on what you’ve been doing in the past. Therefore, if you’re not in the present moment, you’re probably in a program.
The only way we can change our lives is to change our energy—to change the electromagnetic field we are constantly broadcasting. In other words, to change our state of being, we have to change how we think and how we feel.
Let’s review a key concept from Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: “Electromagnetic Signature,” the combined result of your thought (electrical) + feeling (magnetic), which creates your electromagnetic field — that is, your state of being — from which your life experiences (any potential in the quantum field) are created.
This is the reason why change doesn’t take effect because we want to change the experience without first changing our state of being. We do the opposite!
We have to turn it around. We must choose to be happy first so we can have happy experiences.
Another key concept is the thought-feeling closed-loop system (“the program”). When often repeated, it becomes a habit. The question, and the answer to it that makes the difference, is whether it’s a conscious or an unconscious habit.
If it’s an unconscious habit, we are creating from the past (same old, same old). If it’s a conscious habit, we are creating in the present. And it’s only in the present moment that we can truly create the “future”.
This points us to the essential key for change — AWARENESS. No awareness, no change.
Once you become aware of a habit, it’s no longer unconscious. You become aware of a habit and change it into something else that works for you. You break the habit and you create a better version of yourself.
Begin with the Mind
The gene itself doesn’t physically change—the expression of the gene changes, and that expression is what matters most because that is what affects our health and our lives.
That’s why I say you have to think greater than the way you feel to make any real, lasting changes.
That’s where becoming supernatural begins — in the mind — by thinking greater than what is natural. Change happens first in the mind.
In the context of health, which is given primary importance in the book, Dr. Joe provides a detailed discussion on how change follows in the body.
But here’s the idea: considering again the thinking-feeling loop (mind-body program), emotions are then the byproduct of experiences. These emotions are what signal the genes in our body. They either turn on or turn off a particular gene expression (Epigenetics).
This means that even if you’re genetically predisposed to a certain disease, but your gene expresses health and well-being, then you will be healthy.
It was demonstrated when Dr. Joe and his team measured the IgA (Immunoglobulin A, a chemical for the immune system) levels of participants at the end of their four-day workshop. The IgA levels of participants who practiced elevated emotions were boosted by 49.5%.
And it was their thinking, their inner experience, not the outer environment that made the difference.
Take Your Power Back
That’s why we use meditation as the model to change our internal state. This allows us to break from our associations to every body, every one, every thing, every where, and every time long enough to journey within. Once you overcome your emotional body and you take your attention off everything known to you in your outer world, you call your energy back to you, breaking the bonds with your past-present reality
Once you take your attention off all those exterior elements, you start to weaken your energetic and emotional bonds with those things and you finally begin to free up enough available energy to create a new future. That’s going to require you to become aware of where you’ve been unconsciously placing your attention, and—like separating the two atoms—it’s also going to take some energy to consciously break those bonds.
Refresher: Energy flows where attention goes. And it requires energy to create. If we are caught up in the same old thinking-feeling loop, then we are using our energy to re-create the same known reality.
So we use meditation as a tool to redirect our attention from the outer to the inner world. As Dr. Joe expounds, from somebody to nobody (attention away from your physical body); from someone to no one (attention away from your identity, as a son, an engineer, a writer, a very good-looking man… I’m using myself as an example, by the way, for easier comprehension); from something to nothing (attention away from material things, your possessions); from somewhere to nowhere (attention away from wherever your mind wanders); and from sometime, the linear time, to no time (attention away from past memories or future ideas).
Meditation breaks the cycle of that old thinking-feeling loop, weakens your energetic bondage to it, frees up the energy, and makes it available for you to create anew.
Dr. Joe introduces a thoroughly-guided meditation technique in the book, called Reconditioning the Body to a New Mind Meditation, which involves a form of muscle exercise to free up stored energy and make it available for useful purposes (e.g. for healing the body). Definitely a must-try!
Becoming Coherent and Whole
When we take our attention off the material world and begin to open our focus to the realm of the unknown and stay in the present moment, the brain works in a coherent manner. When your brain is coherent, it is working in a more holistic state and you will feel more whole.
When the brain is aroused due to the hormones of stress and we’re narrowing our focus and shifting attention from people, objects, things, and places in our known outer world, the brain fires incoherently. When your brain is out of balance in this way, you will be more fragmented, unfocused, and living in more duality and separation.
And that is the root of all suffering — separation, or to be more specific, the illusion of separation perceived by our dualistic thinking. It’s part of being human, so there’s nothing wrong with that. But the problem is we give so much attention to it. To people, places, and things outside of ourselves. We are so distracted by the outer world that we pay almost no attention to our inner world. And since energy flows where attention goes, our energy flows away from us.
This is what Gary Zukav describes in his book, The Seat of the Soul, as the splintered personality. As we shift our attention back to our inner world, we collect back the distributed energy and bring them together into focus. The personality becomes whole. What was once a scattered light now becomes a laser, a phase-coherent beam — exactly how our brain will function when it’s coherent*. It becomes integrated and its consciousness (ego) merges with the Consciousness of the Universal Mind (God).
It’s the Unified Field of Consciousness. Hence, it’s called “Oneness.”
*Dr. Joe goes in-depth in the book about the different brain waves and the comparison of incoherent and coherent states of the brain.
Intention + Emotion = Creation
Once we’re in the present moment, there are infinite possibilities that exist in the quantum field as electromagnetic frequencies. As you combine a clear intention with elevated emotions, you are broadcasting a whole new electromagnetic signature into the field. When there’s a vibrational match between your energy and the energy of that potential, the longer you’re conscious of that energy, the more you will draw the experience to you.
What does a coherent brain bring about? Clear intention. A laser-focused intent. That’s one thing, but there’s another crucial part of the equation: Elevated emotion.
As we’ve learned in Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, the quantum field doesn’t respond to intention alone. Neither to emotion alone. It responds only when the two are aligned (a state called “Heart Coherence”).
But what about action, Mr. Very Good-looking Man*? Once your intention is coupled with emotion, it activates a potential in the quantum field. And because you have an electromagnetic field (thinking + feeling), you emit an electromagnetic frequency, a vibration. The quantum field then matches that vibration and draws to you experiences of the same frequency. That’s the “right time” to go into action.
Intention and emotion are the creation part. Action is part of the manifestation. When you act on your combined intention and emotion, you are manifesting your own creation. That’s your mind (intention), your heart (emotion), and your body (action) coming into unison. Oooh!
Thinking ->> Feeling ->> Doing ->> Having
In other words, Dr. Joe is simply saying that we have to think and feel as if what we want to happen has already happened.
How can we tell if we’re thinking and feeling as if? We are acting as if the “future” is already happening in the present.
*That’s so nice of you to think and feel about me, thank you.
Energy Centers
Think of each of them as an individual center of information. Each has its own specific energy that carries a corresponding level of consciousness, its own emission of light expressing very specific information, or its own frequency carrying a certain message. Each also has its own individual glands, its own unique hormones, its own chemistry, and its own individual plexus of neurons. Think of these individual clusters of neurological networks as mini-brains. And if each one of those centers has its own individual brain, then each also has its own individual mind.
I think this is the first time I’ve come across a discussion on the body’s energy centers from a scientific perspective, and Dr. Joe makes a very good representation.
We know them as chakras, located in the different regions of the body, and Dr. Joe refers to them as mini-brains. Because mind is the brain in action, each energy center has a mind of its own, or what Dr. Joe calls “plexus of neurons.” What activates them is energy with conscious intent. Conscious, meaning it is given attention.
It’s what’s being done in Dr. Joe’s popular Blessing of the Energy Centers meditation. You place your attention on each of the energy centers, starting from the first (root chakra) up to the eight (soul star chakra), become aware of the space around them (thereby expanding its consciousness), and then activate them with elevated emotion (love, gratitude or appreciation).
In the book, The Path to Awesomeness, I also touched on these energy centers and included a set of daily affirmations for each chakra. I mentioned that a chakra meditation will complement it and Blessing of the Energy Centers is one suitable partner. (Hmmm, I think it’s no coincidence that the book was subtitled “Becoming Super”)
HRV
When your heart becomes coherent, your nervous system responds by increasing the brain’s energy, creativity, and intuition, which has a positive effect on virtually every organ in the body. Now the heart and the brain are working together, causing you to feel more whole, connected, and content—not only within your own body, but also with everything and everybody.
When our HRV is in a heart-coherent pattern, it reflects increased synchronization and harmony within the two branches of the ANS, as well as in the activity occurring in our higher-level brain centers. This is one reason why HMI teaches the importance of heart coherence so people can maintain clarity, decision-making ability, and composure in high-stress situations.
Did you know that the heart begins beating even before the brain is formed? And when removed from the body, the heart can still continue beating for an extended time when placed in a salt solution? Dr. Joe says that the heart is an autorhythmic organ, meaning its heartbeat is self-initiated within the heart, not from the brain. Woah, the heart has its own consciousness!
Dr. Joe reveals another important fact in the book: the heart and the brain have more nerve connections to each other than any other system in the body. In particular, the heart contains nerves from both branches of the Autonomic Nerve System (ANS). This means that any change in the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems affects the beat-to-beat activity of the heart, which can be measured via Heart Rate Variability (HRV) — the difference in time between each heartbeat.
Studies show that moderate to higher levels of HRV (effect of elevated emotions) makes us better able to adapt to challenges, while lower levels (due to survival emotions) are predictors of health issues.
This further stresses the importance of being in coherence. When the heart is coherent, the brain is coherent, the body is coherent.

Mind Movies
By purposefully pairing very powerful and moving images of your future, adding words and phrases to reinforce the content, and combining them with elevated emotions and inspiring music, you create long-term memories that move your biology out of the past and into the future.
Its purpose is to remind them that they can accomplish their dreams, create the uncommon, and become supernatural.
You know how vision boards can help you in reaching your goals, yes? It gives you a clearer image of what you want. You also believe in the power of affirmations, yes? It reinforces a positive thinking-feeling loop. And you probably get inspired by uplifting music, yes? Well, what if there’s a tool that combines all of them? Yes! Yes! Yes! Enter Mind Movies — the motion picture of your life.
It’s visualization on steroids! It also covers most of Abraham Hick’s 22 processes (see Ask and It is Given), “Scripting” being one of them. Now with Mind Movies, you bring your script to screen.
You also get to pick your OST, the soundtrack of your life. In the same way that a song can make you recall memories of past experiences, your OST becomes associated with the images of your desired future experiences. It’s called associative memory. Dr. Joe says that pattern recognition happens in the brain.
With Mind Movies, you build neural networks in your brain and link them to your future experience. You are educating your brain and entertaining yourself at the same time.
Because, again, the most important thing here is you feel good about it. Don’t mess with how or when your movie is going to unfold in your life.
Just enjoy the show!
Magic!
Once you have an experience, a feeling, or a better understanding of the unified field—once it changes your brain’s circuitry—it allows you to experience and perceive reality in new ways. In fact, you will see a spectrum of life that your brain did not have the circuitry to perceive before. The next time your brain fires those networks, you already have the hardware to experience even more of the reality. You are now perceiving more of a reality that has always existed; you merely lacked the circuits to perceive it previously.
If on a consistent basis you can make this journey all the way to Source and connect with it, the moment you truly interact with it, you will begin to behave more like it. Its nature becomes your nature, and now more intelligent love is being expressed through you. What are its innate qualities? You will become more patient, forgiving, present, conscious, aware, willful, giving, selfless, loving, and mindful, to name but a few of them. You realize that which you have been seeking is seeking you. You become it, and it becomes you.
Becoming supernatural is just that — merging with Source. In other words, it’s about you becoming God. I know that’s too much to handle. Here’s what it could look like:
Kidding aside, it’s the life we’re meant to experience, as God intended it — filled with love, joy, and awesomeness. Because it’s a journey to God, this life is an opportunity to experience and know God.
Dr. Joe keeps on reiterating that experience enriches the brain. The more you experience, the more you know. Your brain keeps on upgrading. That is, you evolve from lower consciousness (where you experience separation, the illusion that causes suffering) to higher and Higher Consciousness (where you experience Oneness, the reality of peace that surpasses all understanding).
Sounds too mystical? Too good to be true? Well, it is! Because it has always been that way. It’s just that our brains didn’t initially have the circuitry to perceive it. Then it does along the way. Your awareness grows over time.
I can only speak from experience. Now, thanks to Dr. Joe, the experience of the supernatural can now be articulated even from a scientific viewpoint. In the book, he discusses at great length about the activation of the pineal gland (the “circuitry” in the brain) and the neurobiological processes that take place.
Dr. Joe first shows where the magic happens. Then he reveals how it happens. No dirty tricks, but scientific data.
You know what the best part is? It’s finally knowing that the magic is you.
Heart Intelligence
The heart, our connection to the unified field, then acts like a catalyst to amplify the process of coherence back into the brain. Because the heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart, the more coherence you can achieve through the elevated emotions of the heart, the more the brain and the heart synchronize. This synchronization produces measurable effects not only within the body, but also within the electromagnetic field surrounding the body—and the bigger the field we produce around our body, the more we can affect others in a nonlocal way.
Take a look at this:
Awesome!
Dr. Joe adds:
Our data supports the HeartMath Global Coherence Initiative’s belief that an invisible field exists upon which information is communicated. This field links and influences all living systems, as well as our collective human consciousness.
Because of this field, information is communicated nonlocally between people at a subconscious level through the autonomic nervous system. In other words, we are bound and connected by an invisible field of energy, and this energy field can affect everyone’s behaviors, emotional states, and conscious and unconscious thoughts.
That invisible field exists in the Earth’s atmosphere. Experts were able to detect resonances at a main frequency of 7.83Hz (called “Schumann Resonance,” named after the physicist who hypothesized it). In one research, it was discovered that this Schumann Resonance affects our overall wellbeing.
It means we are connected to this field. Not only do we have our individual electromagnetic field, but the Earth does also! It’s our human collective consciousness.
Now, there’s what is called “Constructive Interference,” when two coherent waves come together to create a bigger wave. That wave affects all the other non-locally. It ripples out across the entire ocean, so to speak.
To illustrate the point, Dr. Joe lists various peace-gathering projects and blends them with the concept of “emergence” (think of a school of fish moving coherently). One of which is the global meditation gathering from 1983 to 1985 resulting in a dramatic decrease (72%) in world terrorism.
When a global community comes together in the name of peace, love, and coherence, according to emergence we should be able to produce an effect in the Earth’s electromagnetic field, as well as in each other’s fields.
Imagine what we can do now that we’re better equipped with scientific-based knowledge and the technology (e.g. social media) to educate everyone.
World peace no longer remains a mere fluffy idea. It is existing as a potential we can activate.
Imagine what you can do.
It only takes common people doing the uncommon to usher the supernatural into this world.
Are you now ready to become one?
